Protection of dolphins economically viable
More than 80 % of the earth’s biodiversity is to be found in the sea. Unfortunately, humans has a vast negative impact on the oceans. Overfishing, pollution, destructive fishing tools and climate change all constitute a serious threat to the oceans and its inhabitants.
Along the coast on the border between Cambodia and Thailand, the number of dolphins has radically decreased during the last decade. The Postcode Foundation supports the environmental organization IUCN in their efforts to train locals in how to protect the dolphins. This is done through improved fishing practices, decreased pollution, as well as strengthen local actions with the aim to protect the dolphins.
The project also makes protection of dolphins economically viable. For example by establish and develop ecotourism, making the dolphins the major tourist attraction.
