Rescue and rehabilitation of orangutans on Boreno
Orangutans are one of the many species threatened by extinction. The biggest threat to the orangutans ‘existence is deforestation. When the rainforest disappears, the orangutans have a hard finding food and often die from starvation. The main reason why the forest is felled is the need to produce palm oil, a product found in many of our daily food products.
The Foundation supports the organization Save the Orangutans that work with the world's largest center for rescue and rehabilitation of orangutans, the center is found on Borneo. There are currently 850 orangutans in the center and the goal is to release as many orangutans as possible in forest areas the Indonesian government has promised not cut down more forest.
