The Postcode Foundation supports disaster risk reduction in Vietnam
Vietnam is frequently affected by natural disasters and the situation is becoming worse as a result of climate change. But in spite of the recurring disasters, preparedness amongst the authorities and villages is relatively low resulting in serious consequences, both at the individual level and for the society as a whole.
The Postcode Foundation supports a project within the organization ActionAid with the aim to improve disaster preparedness in twelve villages in the central highlands of Vietnam. This area is particularly vulnerable to natural disasters such as landslides, floods, cyclones and severe droughts.
The project trains representatives both from concerned authorities and from the villages in disaster preparedness. These representatives in turn train local rescue teams that will have the ability to give rapid assistance in situations of disasters. The project also includes the construction of new water systems that will ensure the access to safe drinking water and irrigation during periods of draught.
