Supports peace building through business in fragile and conflict-affected communities
Peace Ventures, a project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, aims to harness the power of markets to buttress peace building efforts in some of the world’s most poverty-and conflict-ridden regions. The project supported by the Postcode Foundation is working to identify local, ethical craft and textile producers in Kenya, Sudan, India, Indonesia, Peru, Colombia, and Mongolia, among others, that have a peace effect in the communities in which they operate. Peace companies, which must meet the rigorous standards developed by Peace Ventures, will develop and produce apparel and accessories for sale in stores around the world.
By creating jobs, facilitating interaction between groups on opposite sides of the conflict, and providing alternatives to conflict-related employment, these peace companies can generate profit while making a global contribution to the prevention of conflict and protection of human rights. Moreover, consumers will have an opportunity to learn about the communities in which their products were produced and about conflict-resolution issues.
