Tostan
- Location: Gambia
- Period: 2010-2011
- Organization: Tostan
- Contribution: Swedish Postcode Lottery
The Postcode Foundation supports the organization Tostan in their work to reduce female circumcision. This is an ancient tradition that is practiced around the world, foremost in northern Africa. Female circumcision means serious suffering for the young girls and women that are subject to the tradition. In worst cases the consequences leads to the death of the victim. The Foundation supports Tostan´s work in northern Gambia where 99 percent of all girls are being circumcised. Tostan is the only organization in the world to show concrete results in terms of reducing female circumcision, therefore this project will contribute to decrease this practice.
